A major is the degree you will earn at graduation, while a concentration focuses on a specific field of study related to a major. Not every major has a concentration. These tracks are not majors, but instead provide guidance and academic preparation for a specific profession or educational goal.
Learn more about the benefits of pre-professional advising tracks. The Master of Education program prepares teachers of quality and distinction. At CSU Pueblo, preparing teachers is a campus-wide responsibility, with faculty and administrators involved in support of the program’s mission.
Our Master of Education program has partnerships with 17 school districts and four community colleges in southern and southeastern Colorado. The joint efforts of students, faculty, and administrators across all partners focus on improving the quality of learning in classrooms in elementary, secondary, and higher education.
The Department of Engineering offers an Engineering, B. The Bachelor of Arts in English program prepares students to think critically and to write persuasively, which are skills that benefit our graduates in every aspect of life. Students are provided laboratory and field experiences that allow observations, inferences, and the opportunities to master skills hands-on.
Graduates of the Strength and Conditioning emphasis are prepared to take the National Strength and Conditioning Association certification. Graduates can find employment in fitness and recreation facilities, athletic training facilities, and high schools and colleges. The finance minor is open to accounting, management, and non-business students.
This minor strengthens the ability to make sound financial decisions. The Fitness and Recreational Sports Management minor prepares graduates to work in positions of leadership in a variety of recreational service agencies. The Health Science and Administration, B. The program, which is designed for allied health professionals, requires an AAS degree in an allied health field for admission.
The Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences is available to students who desire to work in healthcare, allied health, or public health fields. Additionally, it is an excellent completion degree for individuals that already have a two year allied health degree. The History, B. The Certificate in Homeland Security Studies is a 9 credit-hour program for any academic major and non-degree seeking student. The coursework covers a wide range of homeland security issues, from national security and homeland defense, to the many features of natural and manmade disaster response, to domestic criminal and counterterrorism challenges.
The Minor in Homeland Security Studies is an 18 credit-hour program open to students of any academic major. The minor provides students an in-depth understanding of the mission, challenges, and method behind homeland security. Students in the minor classes focus on the challenges within the practice of homeland security and defense.
The Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering BSIE is a 4-year program that covers the design, improvement and installation of integrated systems of people, materials, information, equipment, and energy. The program draws upon knowledge in mathematical and physical sciences, along with engineering analysis and design.
The Master of Science in Industrial and Systems Engineering MSISE program prepares students to function as engineers in advanced projects in industrial engineering and operations research, and to continue their graduate studies at a doctoral level. The minor in Industrial Engineering is appropriate for students who want to add levels of efficiency, quality, and safety to their study of a technical field such as chemistry, mathematics, or physics.
The Italian minor offers a dynamic introduction to Italian language and culture. Through a wide variety of coursework in language, conversation, composition, literature and cultural history, students are exposed to a range of issues and methodological approaches. The Minor in Jazz Studies prepares students for a wide range of opportunities to successfully work in the jazz idiom, including jazz theory, composition, arranging, improvisation, and in-depth study of the history of both jazz and popular music.
Jazz Studies students can participate in any of CSU Pueblo’s related ensembles, which include big band, choral, and guitar performance groups. The minor in Legal Studies provides students with a basic understanding of the American judicial and legal system. The courses are designed to improve critical thinking, analytic skills, research practices, and communication skills. The Liberal Studies, B.
The coursework provides both breadth and depth in the arts and humanities, English, math, sciences, and social sciences. Required courses also provide support in each area of the Colorado Content Standards. The Marketing program provides students with an understanding of how marketing activities can be used to sell products, services and ideas successfully, while using a customer focus. This minor is only available to non-Business Management majors. The Media and Entertainment B.
Students have five areas of concentration to choose from, which can lead to various careers in the journalism industry, radio, television, web design, advertising, etc. The Department of Media and Entertainment prides itself on the environment we provide for students. We see our students as colleagues, working hand-in-hand with faculty and staff to ensure they are well-prepared for careers in the mass communications professions.
The major in mathematics leads to the degree of Bachelor of Arts B. A flexible curriculum allows students to prepare for teaching careers, employment in areas such as actuarial science, computer science, engineering and statistics or graduate school.
A Bachelor of Science in Mathematics provides broad knowledge of mathematics topics with depth in certain areas, while a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics provides a solid mathematics core within a flexible curriculum. Students interested in a degree in path can pursue a dual Physics, B. The Military Science minor is centered on the principles of leadership, and the 19 attributes and competencies of Army leaders. These principles apply to positions in the military or in civilian careers.
All courses develop leadership and management skills as well as the self-confidence and initiative of each student. During classes, leadership labs, physical training and field training exercises, you will learn firsthand what it takes to lead others, motivate groups and conduct missions as an Officer in the Army.
The focus of this program is to recruit, develop, and commission college-educated men and women to serve as officers in the United States Army. The Minor in Digital Music and Audio Production introduces the basic concepts of music and audio production.
The Minor in Non-Profit Administration is a great fit for students wanting to pursue careers in non-profit organizations that include the health care, human services, recreation, chambers of commerce, civic efforts, art facilities, etc.
The nonprofit administration minor supports the mission of the university by promoting civic responsibility and encouraging innovation. The school prepares graduates for professional positions as safe, competent and caring nurses to meet the health care needs of diverse populations. The Minor in Organ Performance Studies provides practical organ skills for keyboard players such as service playing, service planning, and choir accompanying.
The minor gives opportunities for off campus practical training in local area churches which leads also to additional income for students as well as meaningful connections with the community. The minor prepares students for positions such as being a Church Organist and Music Director, Choir Accompanist in community settings. A Minor in Outdoor Recreation gives you the leadership, technical, and facilitation skills you need to help develop individuals in the outdoors. The Philosophy minor provides a set of courses that encourage students to think deeply about questions of human existence.
The Physics, Bachelor of Science BS degree prepares students to work on forefront ideas in science and technology, academia, government, or the private sector. The Political Science B. The degrees prepare undergraduates for a wide range of jobs in the private, public, and non-profit sectors. The Political Science minor provides students knowledge and understanding of the American political system and of global studies. The Political Science Program is intellectually diverse, methodologically rigorous, and dedicated to excellence in teaching. Each degree provides students with a versatile background of the major areas within psychology, along with the opportunity to select courses to fit their personal interests.
The Psychology department has a local chapter of Psi Chi, the National Honor Society in Psychology, which encourages students to maintain excellence in scholarship. The Reading Minor is for elementary, secondary, or K teacher certification candidates who wish to have a recognized area of strength in the teaching of reading and other language arts. The Recreation minor prepares graduates be leaders in a variety of recreational service agencies.
Other areas of employment include recreation programs in the military, hospital, commercial, and worksite settings as well as hospital and therapeutic settings. The Bachelor of Social Work BSW program is committed to promoting social and economic justice through excellence, creativity, and innovation. Social Workers are dedicated to helping diverse individuals, families, groups, and communities to meet basic human needs.
The Master of Social Work MSW program prepares students for advanced roles as practitioners to practice holistically in diverse and complex settings. The Sociology B. Sociologists examine the behavior of groups, organizations, institutions, subcultures, and societies.
The sociology programs prepare students to work in education, research, government, business, human services, community organizing, program development, policy analysis, youth services, criminal justice, crime and violence prevention, and victim services. Sociology also prepares students for graduate studies in sociology or related social sciences, for applied research careers, or for professional degree programs in law, social work, public administration and other fields.
The Bachelor of Arts in Spanish prepares students to speak, read, and write in Spanish while understanding its cultural context around the world. The Spanish minor prepares students to talk comfortably in Spanish regarding everyday topics, be proficient in writing and reading, and understand and appreciate the Spanish-speaking cultures. Our faculty uses a communicative approach that is learning centered so students make the maximum use of class time for language practice with their peers and teachers.
The Supervisory Management minor provides students with an understanding of managing people in organizations. The Wildlife and Natural Resources, B. Program coverns an understanding of fish and wildlife ecology and management with practical skills obtained during laboratory and field exercises.
Graduates are prepared for positions with state and federal agencies, tribal departments and conservation organizations, or higher academic degrees. Based on feminist theory, this area of study covers issues of race, ethnicity, class, sexuality, and other parts of human diversity. Students can enroll in the B. The Master of Science in Biochemistry prepares graduates for professional employment or for advanced studies of chemistry and biology, and molecular biosciences including biochemistry and biotechnology.
